On Feb. 16, Associated Student Inc. (ASI) hosted “Warming Up with ASI” in the Carol Burke Lounge from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The event gave students the opportunity to meet and interact with the Board of Directors at California State University, Stanislaus (Stan State).
Students who attended the event were welcomed to enter into a raffle and given a piece of paper with eight questions to ask the board of directors.
During the event, each of the board of directors made their way around the room, making sure they interacted with all of the students and talked to the them about the renovations that will be happening to the the University Student Union (USU) building. They also listened to the students talk and address their concerns.
Despite the fact that many of the students were already in the Carol Burke Lounge when the event started, they were very open to meeting the board of directors.
“It was pretty interesting to talk to the people, and know that like there’s pretty good people in this organization,” said Juan Sanchez (senior, Business Administration).
By the end of the event, Sanchez believed he could talk to the board of directors about any concerns he might have in the future.
Student Government Coordinator, Maria Marquez (sophomore, Communication Studies) mentioned before that ASI wanted students to feel comfortable enough to approach the board of directors about anything.
Although ASI reached their overall expectation for the event, Marquez admits they could have improved the event by advertising it more, due to the fact that many students were unaware about the event.
Sanchez says that he did not know about “Warming Up with ASI” when it started; he just happened to be in the Carol Burke Lounge when the event started. He agrees that ASI should advertise their events a lot more.
“Not everybody knows what ASI does. If you were to talk to a regular person, they probably wouldn’t know”, Sanchez says.
Brian Garcia (junior, Liberal Studies) and Cristian Sharboneau (junior, Criminal Justice) both said they had not heard of the event either.
“The only time I ever find out about events is from like the resident newsletters,” Garcia said.
“I don’t see any posters or anything. I mean they don’t need to be like fancy, extravagant posters, but I mean at least on like a window, or a wall, or right here, or somewhere,” Sharboneau said.
Marquez says that aside from advertisements, another way ASI will be trying to improve events is by having board or directors go out to the quad twice a month to talk to students. Be make sure to be on the lookout for future ASI events.
