If the week coming up is already looking hectic and you think you’ll need a little pick-me-up to get you through, take the time after class to attend “Warming Up with ASI” on Feb. 16 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m in the Carol Burke Lounge. The event will be hosted by Associated Students Inc. (ASI) and will include free food and drinks for students.
The purpose of the event is to give students a chance to meet and socialize with members of the board of directors at Stan State.
“We want students to recognize who the board of directors are and whenever they see them around campus, we want them to feel comfortable to approach them and be able to talk about any concerns or what what they would like to see around campus, and of course better their education,” Student Government Coordinator Maria Marquez (sophomore, Communication Studies) said.
This event can be beneficial for students who are unaware of who the board of directors are. Marcelino Garcia-Guerrero (freshman, Pre-nursing) explained that although he currently has no concerns, if he did he would have difficulty knowing who to voice them to.
“I don’t know who to go to,” Garcia-Guerrero said.
This event can help students like Garcia-Guerrero who are not familiar with the board of directors and their positions at Stan State become familiar with them.
Last semester, ASI put on a similar event called “Thanksgiving Potluck,” which also gave students the opportunity to socialize with the board of directors.
According to Marquez, the overall expectations for the event is for students to enjoy their time meeting the board of directors, and for “the board of directors to leave the event with new information and awareness of any new issues that their peers are experiencing.”
Students who attend the event will have the opportunity to enter a raffle to win a red warrior head blanket, a beanie or a sweater. Each student will receive a paper with questions for the board of directors at California State University, Stanislaus (Stan State). Students who get five signatures will be able to receive three raffle tickets, and students who get less than five signatures will only receive one raffle ticket.
The event and raffle are open to all Stan State students.
