ARCATA/DAVIS – Both the men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams competed in meets at Humboldt State and UC Davis this past weekend.
The 2013 Humboldt Invitational saw victories from both the men and women Warriors. The Women’s first-place finishers included senior Adriana Blanco in the 400 meter dash (1:00.35), senior Denali Foldager in the 3000 meter run (10:29.31), junior Andrea Severson in 100 meter hurdles (15.45) and junior Tessa Gonzales in the long jump (15- 7).
Three Warrior women also finished tied for first in the high jump. Senior Jessica Counts, senior Rio Schwalbach and Severson each jumped a height of 5- 2. The women’s distance medley team finished first as well with a time of 12:32.07. The team consisted of Foldager, senior Ufuoma Egbikuadje, junior Aimee Sawyer and sophomore Lizzie Grolle.
Sophomore Allen Castaneda was the lone first-place finisher for the men in Humboldt. He topped the 800 meter run with a time of 2:01.29. The Men’s distance medley team finished second at the meet with a time of 10:19.77.
The Aggie Open in Davis did not see a Warrior winner in any event, but there were still some bright spots.
Junior Josh Uikilifi finished second in Men’s shot put with a distance of 53- 8 1/4. He also finished fifth in both discuss and the hammer throw.
On the women’s side, sophomore Channing Wilson finished second in the javelin with a distance of 130- 07. She also finished sixth in the hammer throw. Senior Noel Wright was the fourth-place finisher in discuss with a throw of 131- 01.
“The squads that went to Humboldt and Davis also had great performances,” Taylor said. “Both the men’s and the women’s teams are competing well and these early performances show promise for the remainder of the track season.”
The Johnny Mathis Invitational at SF State is next for the Warriors, which will take place on March 23.
