Associated Students Inc. (ASI) hosted a Comedy Night on March 26 in the Event Center on campus.
The room was set with a stage where four members of the Comedy Sportz team called on the audience to make the show entertaining.
Comedy Sportz provides an interactive improvisational experience. Striving for fresh ideas, the crew relies on volunteers in order for them to perform skits out of thin air.
The audience threw out various topics on everything from a ShamWow! that soaks up cotton balls to a Harry Potter themed scene. The versatile crew members adapted to any setting thrown at them.
The crew, although essential to the production, were not the only ones in the spotlight. Audience member participation was crucial to the outcome of the skit. The more participation and fresh ideas, the funnier and more enjoyable the skit was.
Comedy Sportz has been bringing the funny since 1984 in cities all over the country. Comedy Sportz has improv professionals all over California, from Sacramento to Los Angeles. Crew members James Murphy, Jeff Ringold and Tara Paulson all perform in San Jose, CA. Jessilee Windhaus, the fourth crew member, is a regular in Sacramento, CA.
“I saw them perform in San Jose when I was in high school,” Amber Deming (junior, Economics) said. “They were really good!”
Audience members enjoyed watching the skits they helped think up come to life right in front of them.
“They were very funny and interactive,” Bridgette Hines (junior, English) said.
Being put in the spotlight was nothing new for the crew, but inexperienced audience members adjusted to being onstage and part of a production.
Shows by Comedy Sportz are enjoyed by a wide variety of people. They perform events ranging from bachelor parties to business meetings and even offer classes that are available to high school students and adults.
