Music, glow sticks and lack of clothing… sound like a good combo? Just don’t call it streaking. Daily Events, a University Student Union (USU) program, will be conducting its third annual Undie Run Wednesday, Oct. 9 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.
This year’s event is themed “Glow in Fun Undie Run,” which means there will be glow sticks galore.
Imagine the sight of an unclothed mob of individuals garnished with glow sticks running through our beloved campus.
“The purpose of the Undie Run is to donate clothes to charity,” Ariel Jackson, USU Daily Events Coordinator, said. “We really want to give back to the community.”
The event takes place on the California State University, Stanislaus campus. Participants run three laps around campus and remove an item of clothing each lap they complete.
The clothing removed is then donated to different charities throughout Turlock.
Is running not your forte? No need to worry. You can get to the finish line by many different means of transportation.
Some participants ride their bike, scooters or even just walk – and all of these modes of conveyance are acceptable. There are also pit stops throughout the campus where you can pick up water and glow sticks on your stripped-down voyage.
The Undie Run is free of charge and prizes are awarded to the top three male and top three female finishers.
The average number of participants ranges from 150 to 200 people and the first place winners will each receive a free iPod – now how’s that for an incentive to run around half-naked?
“I heard about it last year,” Cierrah Mullins (senior, Kinesiology) said. “I’m glad they’re doing it again because it sounded like fun.”
The run itself lasts about two hours. Immediately following is the after party – glow in the dark style.
The after party festivities aim to highlight the event’s neon theme (pardon the pun). Glow sticks, free food, a DJ and glow pong are all features to expect.
It is not required that you participate in the run itself in order to partake in the festivities to follow.
However, it is strongly encouraged – as well as polite – to donate clothes for the sake of the cause. It couldn’t hurt to have some good karma heading your way.
Universities and organizations nationwide have adopted The Undie Run as a great way to get people involved while putting the hilarity in charity.
