Men’s soccer gets first win, women stay undefeated

The men’s soccer team continued to struggle as they fell to Sonoma State 2-0 on Sept 20. The Warriors’ offense only managed 2 shots in their loss to the Seawolves. The match proved to be very physical as the Warriors were called for 24 fouls and received 5 yellow cards. Clint Long played well in the loss.
The Warriors ended their three game losing streak with a 3-2 overtime win against Humboldt State on Sept. 22. Jose Ramirez scored the gamewinner, his second of the game, with just over a minute left in overtime to seal the Warrior’s first league win of the season. Jose Ortega also contributed with the first goal of the match.
Women Remain Undefeated
Two of the conference’s top women’s soccer teams faced each other as the No. 11 Warriors faced-off with the No. 15 Sonoma State Seawolves. Both teams entered and exited the game undefeated as the two teams battled to a 2-2 draw. Katelyn Nebesnick scored the game tying goal with under a minute left to force overtime and eventually the draw. The Warriors also received a goal from Sabrina Williamson.
The Warriors win streak reached eight games after their 2-1 victory over the Humboldt State Lumberjacks. Tina Benson and Karenee Demery both scored for the Warriors as they remained undefeated on the season. Demery continues to impress as she scored her league leading seventh goal of the season.
Warriors soccer returns home this week to face San Francisco State (Sept. 27) and Cal State Monterey Bay (Sept. 29).
