This past Saturday, California State University, Stanislaus’s Art students hosted a live concert at Grizzly Rock Cafe in an effort to fundraise their trip to Europe this winter.
The fundraiser ran from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. In addition to activities such as Tarot readings, henna tattoos and caricatures that were available for a donation, four bands played throughout the night. A $5 entrance fee paid for a ticket and a basket of fries.
CSU Stanislaus Art students donated their time and expertise not only to raise money for the trip, but to make the event an exciting occasion for children and adults who came out to support them.
“I’m really happy to donate my time and volunteer,” Timothy Brown (junior, Art) said. “I knew that I couldn’t attend the Euro trip, but I figured if I’ve got skill I could donate something.”
This is one of the many fundraisers the 13 students attending the Euro trip have worked to put together, and I could feel their enthusiasm about traveling to Europe, spending time observing and learning about art.
“We’re going to a lot of museums and galleries, seeing hopefully Italy, France and Spain,” Lauren Samo (senior, Art) said.
Students were eager to show the community their talent, with the optimism of learning new techniques and experiences in Europe.
Audience members stayed energized, enjoying the entertainment some of our local bands offered, including, The Sonya Spence Group, Lion’s Bridge, Table for Five and The Great West.
“I came to see Table for Five, but all the bands were great and so were the activities. I even got a caricature,” Arun Dharan (senior, Biological Sciences) said.
Whether it was CSU Stanislaus students coming out to support their friends, kids astonished by the magician or locals enjoying the live entertainment, every attendee found something to keep themselves occupied.
“I think everybody had a great time, the bands were fantastic, and everybody just enjoyed themselves,” Frank Sanders, Grizzly Rock Cafe owner, said.
“What I really enjoyed more than anything is that the group of people that came out kind of respected us, so that’s more important to me than you can ever imagine.”
