Registration began Nov. 6 for the Spring semester at California State University, Stanislaus. Students can secure their classes early while most choices are available. Students are advised to take advantage of early registration opportunities as classes are expected to fill quickly.
Late registration will begin at the start of the semester on Jan. 27, 2014 until Feb. 7, 2014.
The 2014 Spring class schedule is available to students online at csustan.edu.
Students are encouraged to register early in order to get the courses and schedules they need.
“My advice to students is to check for holds and clear them before their registration date,” Maricela Gonzalez (senior, Business Administration) said.
Students receive registration notices sent to their university email account if eligible for priority registration. The priority registration notice will indicate the date and start time, which is the earliest time students may register on their myCSUSTAN account.
The notice also includes any service indicator holds that must be cleared before students are allowed to register for any classes.
“A few times I missed to clear my holds, and I was unable to register during priority registration,” Gonzalez said. “By the time I cleared the hold, classes I needed were full.”
Priority registration is based on class standing, which is determined by number of credit hours completed through the most recent major semester. Priority begins with graduate students followed by seniors, juniors, sophomores, continuing freshmen, non-degree-seeking graduate students and newly admitted freshmen.
Then they take into account completed units. In-progress work does not count until the grades are posted and classes were passed.
For example, if a student has 92 attempted units but 12 are in progress, only 80 count towards determining the registration date, not 92.
Once priority registration is determined, registration dates are determined and holds are cleared, students will be able to choose their classes for the upcoming semester.
Priority registration is implemented to allow current students who have accumulated a specified number of credit hours to register before students who have more courses to complete.
During open registration, anyone can register for classes, even if they are not officially in a degree program. This time period comes after current/continuing students have registered for classes.
