Turlock’s local art gallery, the Carnegie Arts Center, will be showcasing Carnegie Rocks! beginning May 25. The collection belongs to a Turlock resident and includes rock-and-roll artifacts ranging from the 1930s to the 1960s. Students get in for free on Fridays, but ticket prices are estimated to be $10.
Matt Swanson, the collector of the pieces used in the exhibit, continues to make offers on other rock-and-roll collectables. The exhibit already boasts quite a variety, however, including pieces such as a 1962 Seafoam Green Fender Jaguar, a Monteleone Radio City Deluxe, Ace Frehley’s Reunion Light-up Guitar and Brad Gillis’s Red Fender Stratocaster.
Before the center opens its doors Carnegie Arts will hold a fundraising event May 24 from 5:30 to 10 p.m. Special guests including KISS lead guitarist Ace Frehley, Night Ranger and legendary guitarist George Lynch will have a special meet-and-greet with sponsors (those who donate $1000 or more) and their guests. A $250 VIP ticket will grant you access to a sneak peak of the exhibit and a live Night Ranger performance at the center that night.
For more information on the fundraising event, carnegierocks.eventbrite.com has a detailed outline of sponsor and VIP ticket prices. Check out the official Facebook page for Carnegie Rocks! at facebook.com/CarnegieRocks.
The center is located in Downtown Turlock and has showcased work from well-known artists, including Pablo Picasso in an exhibition of his ceramics last year. More information and updates can be found at carnegieartsturlock.org or you can call the center at 209-632-5761. Open hours are Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
