Stanislaus State is continuing to offer scholarships to help students with college costs, with a March 2 deadline fast approaching. The scholarships cover the 2022-2023 academic year and are catered to student’s majors, but in comparison to previous years.
According to financial aid advisor and scholarship coordinator Katrin Shahbaz, there has been a decrease in scholarship applications.
“During uncertain times, students are hesitant to submit an application because they don’t necessarily know what the future may hold,” Shahbaz said. “We do our best to advertise and encourage all Stan State students to apply for scholarships.”
Another reason is that there is a lack of student awareness.
Jose Artero Landeros (sophomore, Criminal Justice) expressed that he has not heard of the in-house scholarships, but would like to apply now that he knows of them.
To help promote more awareness, Landeros suggested that there be more social media promotion with a link to the applications page, as well.
There are a lot of scholarships open, some specific to a major and some are more general. Students are encouraged to apply to both the general and specific ones to their major because more is applicable to their needs than fully realized.
“Scholarship opportunities are always beneficial in providing financial assistance to students regardless of what may be going on in the world. We are thankful to all of the amazing donors who make these scholarship opportunities possible for our students,” Shahbaz said.
With the March 2 deadline quickly approaching, students are encouraged to apply here.
“We encourage all Stan State students to apply for scholarships using our on-campus scholarship application,: Shahbaz said. “It is a simple application process that will provide an opportunity to potentially receive multiple scholarships that otherwise the student would not have available to them.”
For further information, students are encouraged to contact the Financial Aid office at the number (209) 667-3336 or email them at [email protected]. Their office is located in Mary Stuart-Rogers, MSR 100.
