The fight was strong between CSU Stanislaus (5-19) and the San Francisco State University Gators (5-19) as the two teams competed Saturday to see who would win the series here at CSU Stanislaus.
The Warriors had a great outing with a lead of 2-0 going into the sixth inning. During game one, the Warriors looked like they were going to redeem their fourth win versus the Gators.
The Warriors scored first in the second inning. With two runners on, senior Jessica Varady was up to bat and hit a triple to right field scoring both runners to earn a 2-0 lead. The Gators were unable to answer back until the sixth and seventh inning.
SFSU was able to string along three hits with an RBI from Jennifer Lewis to put the score at 2-1. The Warriors moved to the seventh inning where the Gators worked themselves to bases loaded with an intentional walk and two outs. Varady was unable to come through as she walked in a run making the score 2-2. Aryn Guzman hit a single for the Gators to score 2 more runs. The Warriors could not pull together anymore hits and game one ended in favor of the Gators, 4-2.
The momentum shifted to the Gators as they struck first in the opening inning- scoring their first run of the game against sophomore, Karina Callazo. Callazo was relieved by junior, Cheyenne Harper.
The Gators were able to keep the momentum scoring three more runs in the second inning off of Harper. Harper kept control of the Gators until she was taken out in the fourth inning and senior, Natalie Rendon came in relief for Harper. Rendon gave up four runs in the seventh to sway the score 8-0.
Stanislaus offense was struggling by only putting up two hits in the first four innings of play.
Sophomore, Morgan Balestreri moved Cassidy Duke to third as the Warriors fought back- but the inning was shortened by the Gators defense. Varady (2-3) singled in the sixth with the attempt to start a two-out rally, but fell short.
The Warriors were unable to answer back in the seventh inning and finished with two losses in the nightcap.
