TURLOCK—The California State University, Stanislaus baseball team faced off in a doubleheader against the California State University, San Bernardino Coyotes on Saturday, losing both games.
Game one stretched for 12 innings with the Warriors losing 7-5 in almost four hours of play.
The Coyotes and the Warriors both amounted 11 hits; however, the Coyotes capitalized and picked up the victory. Second baseman Colton Beatty went 2-for-5 for the Warriors with one run. Joe Medeiros went 2-for-3 with one RBI, while both first baseman Andy Yingling and left fielder Craig Beevers added two hits and one RBI each.
Paul Eshleman went 2-for-3 with three RBIs fro CSU San Bernardino.
When asked about his performance in game 1, pitcher Chris Short said, “I felt extremely confident in all 3 of my pitches (football, curveball, changeup). Coach Leonasio did a great job on pithc calling and catcher Mike Turray and I worked great together during the 4 innings I pitched. Our team played extremely hard all 12 innings, and regardless of the loss I feel it was a great game of baseball.”
Kerry Kelley walked away with the win for the Coyotes with CSU Stanislaus’ Keith McDaniels taking the loss for game one.
Game 2 began at approximately 3:30 p.m. and continued until after sunset with San Bernardino coming away with the win, 8-2.
CSU Stanislaus had five hits, with second baseman Colton Beatty going 2-for-3 with one RBI and a run scored. Center fielder Eli Davis went 1-for-2, while catcher DJ Arellano went 2-for-3.
CSU San Bernardino had 12 hits in game two, with first baseman Brandon Day 2-for-2 with two runs and three RBIs. Short stop Mike Newell went 1-for-3 and had two runs.
CSU San Bernardino’s Mike Mudron took the win, while the Warriors’ Shay Maltese took the loss.
