TURLOCK – To conclude the season, the California State University, Stanislaus Warriors men’s basketball team finishes the season with a 16-11 overall record and a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) record of 12-10; placing seventh in conference.
The team played tough all year including their last game against Cal Poly Pomona; losing at the buzzer 69-67.
The Warriors made its second consecutive playoff appearance under third year head coach Larry Reynolds.
“Well I was a little disappointed, um I think we had the expectations of doing a little better. We were picked by the coaches to finish sixth in the conference at the beginning of the season and we thought we could finish a little higher than that,“ Reynolds said. “Due to having a few injuries, not having our post player involved with the team until mid-December and then having a few guys ineligible, I think it cost us to not ever really get settled until late in the season.
The team is losing seven seniors, including second team All-Region center Reggie Jones. Jones helped the Warriors by leading the team in points (19.1), rebounds (6.9) and blocks (41).
“We sign three players in November,” said Reynolds. “We will probably sign three or four in the spring period here coming up.”
Coach Reynolds said one of the impacts he tries to instill in his players is to, “develop a team concept where everybody is playing for one goal and try the best we can year in and year out.”
Hopefully Reynolds’ new recruits will buy into his team concept and help the Warriors get over the hump in the playoffs next season despite losing some key players.
