LOS ANGELES – The California State University, Stanislaus Warriors defense struggled once again, committing three errors in two games as they lost twice against the California State University, Los Angeles Golden Eagles in Saturday’s doubleheader, 6-10 in the first and 2-3 in the second.
Stanislaus tallied 12 hits, with four Warriors having multiple hits going 2-for-4, with second basemen Colton Beatty and senior Justin Manci both driving in two runs to lead the offense.
Rafael Vasquez started for the Warriors throwing six innings while giving up four earned runs on eleven hits and striking out five as he picked up his first loss of the season.
David Arredondo pitched 5 2/3 innings, giving up six runs on 10 hits and striking out 10 as he picked up his first win of the year for the Golden Eagles.
For the Golden Eagles, all but two of the starters had a hit for an offense that assembled 15 hits and scored 10 runs in the process.
The second game amplified on the defensive side of both teams as the conference teams only used one pitcher for the game, with Gabriel Asakura for the Golden Eagles picking up his second win of the year throwing seven innings, allowing one earned and unearned run on three hits and striking out eight.
For the Warriors, Shay Maltese tossed six innings while giving up seven hits and two earned runs (one unearned), striking out eight as he picked up his first loss of the season.
All but three players contributed for the Golden Eagles offense with at least a hit behind a defense that committed no errors.
Eli Davis and Andy Yingling are the only two Warriors who managed to get a hit as Davis went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Yingling going 1-for-3.
Yingling said, “it was tough losing three close games and came out today ready to play and ended the weekend good and we learned a lot as a team this weekend.”
