Fresno – A rain delay made the fields tougher to play after it subsided, and it showed as the California State University, Stanislaus Warriors lost their first game of the season at Fresno Pacific, 9-2.
Jordan Long and Garrett Wright both contributed on offense with an RBI each, while Andy Yingling and Michael Turay both went 2-for-4 to lead the offense in hits.
The Warriors used a total of six pitchers throughout the night as the opposing team only used two, and the defense struggled while giving up five unearned runs.
For the Sunbirds, freshman starting pitcher Wilson Ashford threw seven outstanding innings, giving up only two runs on eight hits while striking out five and securing the victory.
The staggering offense for the Sunbirds was a teamwork effort as all but two starters came away with a hit in the ball game while committing no errors.
The Warriors, who are now 1-1, will travel to Los Angeles to begin a four game series this upcoming weekend against the 4-2 Golden Eagles beginning Friday at 2 p.m.
Action will then resume Saturday with a double-header starting at 11 a.m, and Sunday’s closing game of the series will also begin at 11 a.m.
