TURLOCK/HAYWARD/SEASIDE — The Lady Warriors’ volleyball team went 2-1 in their Wednesday, Friday and Saturday games, battling against Chico State and Cal State East Bay before CSU Monterey Bay ended their winning streak.
On Wednesday, the Warriors swept Chico State in a home match that was originally supposed to take place in Chico. The team dominated and won each set 25-23, 25-21 and 25-18.
There were a total of 26 tie scores. Senior outside hitter Andrea Fett had 12 kills while senior middle hitter Melissa Bishop, senior outside hitter Janay Bankston and senior opposite hitter Jennifer Marsh each had seven kills.
“We played as a team and pushed all the way through,” assistant coach Lianne Vicchio said. “It’s something we’ve been working on…we were smart offensively and made good decisions. Sometimes we falter and work as individuals, but working as a team is huge and we did that.”
Two nights later, CSU Stanislaus battled for five rounds to defeat California State University, East Bay 3-2. After Cal State East Bay won the first two sets 25-20 and 25-21, CSU Stanislaus fought back even harder to sweep the remaining matches 25-12, 25-17 and 15-13.
Fett dominated the court with a game-high 23 kills, freshman setter Kendal Munoz had 46 assists and junior defensive specialist Ashley Pittman had 20 digs.
The following night, the Warriors went 1-3 against CSU Monterey Bay. After losing the first set 18-25, CSU Stanislaus took the second set 25-23. CSU Monterey Bay overpowered the Warriors and won the next two sets 25-18 and 25-20.
On Oct. 12 and 13, CSU Stanislaus will play at home against Cal State Los Angeles and Cal State Dominguez Hills. Both games are sponsoring breast cancer awareness and the first serve hits the floor at 7 p.m.
