Whether you are an incoming freshman or getting ready to graduate, the start of the semester is a great time to organize yourself for academic success. After you get all your notebooks, scantrons and No. 2 pencils ready, take some time and get your phone ready for the new semester.
1. Clock (iPhone / Android)
You will not pass your classes if you do not show up for the lectures and tests. Use the built-in Clock app on your phone to make sure you wake up with enough time for a cup of coffee. Some other alarm clock apps will not turn-on automatically unless you remember to turn it on the night before.
2. Evernote (iPhone / Android)
Stop taking notes in Microsoft Word. Try using Evernote; they have an amazing app for your phone and your computer. It can can organize your notes by class and day. You can easily share and collaborate on notes with classmates and import your professor’s PowerPoint presentations.
3. Path (iPhone / Android)
Path is a personal social network for you, your close friends and family. You are limited to only 150 friends, but because it is only your close friends you can share that embarrassing photo of you at the party without a possible employer seeing it on Facebook or Twitter.
4. Nook Reader (Android / iPad)
ETextbooks are a great alternative to textbooks and will save you some cash. The school bookstore has Barnes & Noble Nook eTextbooks available, but we are not always around our laptops and having quick access to your textbooks is a must. This app lets you sync your textbooks with your phone. This is a necessity if you are using eTextbooks.
5. Yelp (iPhone / Android)
If you are new to Turlock or commuting to campus, you probably do not know many of the local sweet spots. Yelp lets you explore what is around you and get recommendations based on how you rate other restaurants. I love using Yelp to find new places around town that others recommend.
