I am what you you would call a car person, gearhead, or car enthusiast. If you are someone that does not care too much about your car, don’t worry. I’m going to tell you why you should.
On the website somethingyoushouldknow.net, Anne Lutz Fernandez said in her post, “On average American’s spend (either as a driver or passenger) 18 and a half hours a week in their cars.” That is a lot of time! When was the last time you spent that much time with someone that you don’t live with?
Since California State University, Stanislaus is considered a commuter school, students should love their cars and want to drive as much as I do. People tend to forget how utterly amazing automobiles are and how much we don’t appreciate them. Imagine if you and your car went to the 1930’s. Peoples heads would literally blow up. Nothing like that was available at that time. If you have a automobile from that era, then you are a car lover, and I salute you.
I already have a car group for BMW’s called “209 Bimmers” (shameless promotion) and we go to meets and gatherings to socialize and show off our cars. Students who enjoy their cars would be able to drive them more, show them off, and network with others.
How awesome would it be if CSU Stanislaus had a car group? So many activities, it’s making my head spin! (Step Brothers reference. Good one, I know.) Just this Sunday, Sep. 16, I bought $1,600 worth of parts for $620 all because I belong to a group. Granted, I did have to drive 353 miles to get them, yet it was all worth it.
I was able to drive the car I love and relax and reflect on my life. Every now and then music would be going, but nothing did beat the sound of the wind brushing past your face as the sun sets and the red to blue hue fills the soon to be night sky.
Don’t take what you have for granted. If you like your car and involve yourself in it, you might just see how much character your car has. Please, show some love for your car, and get out there and drive.
