The Women’s basketball team was unable to continue their chase for their first conference title under the leadership of this epic senior class. After a devastating loss to California State University, San Bernardino last year in the playoffs, the Warriors came out with a vengeance.
After earning a top four selection, they were able to not only host, but win their first California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) tournament game since 1990.
“It makes me feel like we have unlocked the door and made it possible for the next classes to reach the same goal and surpass it,” Reana Hardin (senior, Business) said. “We want it to become a norm and an expectation instead of it being such a surprise.”
With a win under their belt, the Warriors headed to California State University, San Marcos to take on the University of California, San Diego Tritons, the number one seed in the tournament.
After a hard fought battle, the women came up short in a 67-82 match. “I was excited because I knew we would be good going into playoffs,” Ana Burch (senior, Sociology) said. “We wanted to see what the rest of season had left to offer.”
With that being said, although they came up short, the seniors have set a new standard on and off the court.
“The seniors have shown me that you really can accomplish your goals. Even though it may take time, your hard work will pay off eventually,” Cameo Warren (sophomore, Computer Science) said.
After back to back post season runs, amazing leaderships and countless wins, this senior class is nothing less than special. They have placed the stepping stones for those who will come after them to preservere and exceed their accomplishments. And with ten returners, the Warriors have a team ready to return for unfinished business next year.
“I’m excited to get back on the court. It sucked losing but i’m excited to get our team back to playoffs next year and finish what these seniors started. The bar is set and now it is up to us, and those after us to exceed that expectation,” Warren said.
