After taking a break, the Democratic Club is up and running again at California State University, Stanislaus, (Stan State). Because the Democratic Club tends to operate only during election season, it has come and gone as an active club on campus.
Reinitiated last semester, the Democratic Party Club currently stands as the only political club on campus.
This club has shown to be dedicated and passionate about making a difference in the community and essentially in the country.
Thus far, since the recent election, the Democratic club has been active in coordinating events such as anti-Trump protests and rallies. They also helped spread the word and advocated for political figures such as Bernie Sanders, Hillary Clinton and Michael Eggman.
Thanks to the club’s former Student Events Coordinator, Alfredo R Vigil-Moran (senior, Political Science), alongside many other members of the club, these events were able to happen.
“We are working on using our political connections to bring in political speakers to speak at our campus,” President Jason Senang (junior, Political Science) said.
The club is currently working on bringing onto campus State Assemblyman Adam Gray and California candidate for Chair of the Democratic Party, Kimberly Ellis, to speak on campus sometime soon.
With hard to ignore current events, Senang of the club is eager to do something about President Trump’s agenda and to be active in the community.
“We cant afford to wait,” Senang said.
He states that a “polarizing figure” such as President Trump should make students and community members come together and stand united.
One of the current goals that the Democratic Party Club is working to accomplish is creating a valid protest at the local level in the City of Turlock and around the area by rounding up as many community members as possible to enhance their message.
“We can make the cities pass ordinances to prevent any ‘what if Trump does this’ scenarios [by gathering large amounts of people]”, Senang said.
Senang and Vigil-Moran encourage any student who is interested in making a difference to join. They commend students to wake up the political consciousness in them and learn more about what rights are given to them.
For more information, members of the club meet at 4:30pm every Wednesday in Bizzini 233. You can also contact president Jason Senrang by email at [email protected].
