February 10th, 2018, will be the Hall of Fame induction of the 1988-89 Women’s Basketball Team, Jomal Bush, Doris Hanny, Verena Preikschas Boga, and Ryan Thornberry.
The Hall of Fame is one of the greatest achievements for athletes, coaches, and anyone who pours their heart and soul into athletics. Stan State introduced its Hall of Fame in 2000 and has been inducting their athletes in to it throughout the years.
The last induction was in 2016 when 5 individuals and the 1981-82 men’s basketball team was honored. In the Spring of 2018, there will be a new group of athletes and individuals that will be honored as the newest Stan State Hall of fame inductees.
Hall of fame inductees are chosen by a committee comprised of Stan states Interim director of Athletics Kim Dyust, the Vice President of Student Affairs/ Dean of students Ron Noble, the director of alumni relations Lisa McMullen, the assistant athletics director Hung Tsai, Donna Peirce a community member/volunteer, Abe Rojas a community member/volunteer and the associate athletics director Aaron Allaire.
“The committee begins meeting in June, and we look at all the candidates and narrow it from there. We have a list of all the statistics on potential inductees, then the committee meets on that and spends quite a bit of time to look over the statistics,” said Dysut.
The committee meets to look at a list of candidates to find their new inductees.
“There is a running list of candidates, so the committee goes through and discusses them for the first few meetings…each year I will go through and add the newest eligible athletes.” said Tsai.
The induction will take place Homecoming weekend 2018. There will be a luncheon held to honor the recipients of the honor. The inductee’s will then attend the homecoming game and be introduced during the halftime show of the 2018 Homecoming game.
