Last Friday, the Stanislaus State Men’s Soccer Team played the Sonoma State Seawolves on the night of November 1st, 2019 at the Warriors Stadium.
Goalkeeper, Daniel Dubiel (freshman, Business), made two saves in the first half, which prevented the Seawolves from scoring.
The first half ended with the score 0-0.
Before the second half, Dubiel was substituted by Goalkeeper, Justin Motzkus (senior, Kinesiology), for the second half.
Late in the second half at the 65th minute, Sonoma State scored their first goal to take the lead.
Stan State Warriors then gave up another goal a minute later. The Warriors then gave up one more goal in the 70th minute.
In the second half, Stan State lost to Sonoma State with the score of 3-0.
Head Coach, Dana Taylor, shared his thoughts about the team’s losing performance in the second half. “The first thing is the guys competed hard in the first half and that’s a major step forward.”
“I thought that was really good in our guys part to battle, to work hard and get into halftime. That’s what happened,” Taylor said.
Midfielder Philip Fuentes (freshman, Kinesiology) thought that the team’s performance was strong and thought the team was fighting for points.
“We gave goals that we shouldn’t have. Mistakes in the bag and mistakes all over the field we shouldn’t be doing. We gotta take it back to the drawing board and fix it the next game,” Fuentes added.
Midfielder Sterling Watring (sophomore, Business Administration) expressed his views about the loss. “It’s tough, but we [are] just going to keep our heads down, keep grinding, and hopefully get some points in the remaining games of the season.”
“I think probably just continue building on how we played in the first half today, moving the ball, and just get down finishing in the other end,” Watring said.
The Men’s Soccer Team will play the Cal State Monterey Bay Otters at Warriors Stadium on Thursday, November 7, at 4:30 PM PST.
