Last Friday, the Stanislaus State Women’s Soccer team played Sonoma State Seawolves on November 1st, 2019 at the Warriors Stadium near Al Brenda Track.
The first half began with the Seawolves scoring the first goal of the game in the 40th minute. The Seawolves would hold on the lead at the end of the first half.
The second half would later open with a second goal by Sonoma State which extends their lead by two on the 80th minute.
The first goal for the Warriors would be scored by Forward Sella Torres (senior, Psychology) in the 81st minute with an assist by Forward Sadie Ortiz (senior, Kinesiology).
Unfortunately, the game ends with the Sonoma State Seawolves winning the hard-fought game with the score of 2-1.
Head Coach Gabriel Bolton was really happy with the effort that the team brought despite the team’s loss in the game. “We created a lot of chances that we could have scored and they just didn’t go in for us today.”
“As far as the effort we made, how we competed, I’m very proud of that. I think we have a lot to build on,” Bolton said.
Forward Selia Torres (senior, Psychology) explained her thoughts about the loss. “It’s a tough loss losing to the first place team. We knew that we need to come in hard.”
“We just need to come out more aggressive and don’t give up easy goals. I feel like those two goals that we gave up are kind of easy. We gave them easy opportunities,” Torres said.
Redshirt Goalkeeper Alyssa Herrman (senior, Social Science) shared about ways the team could improve after the loss. “We have a lot of chances in front of the goal. That’s offensively. Defensively, I thought defense had a pretty good game but I guess staying switched on especially like a team like Sonoma,”
“As a goalkeeper, I feel like I could have been more aggressive,” Herrman added.
The Warriors are now 6-4-0 in the CCAA Conference and will play two more home games at the Warriors Stadium near Al Brenda Track.
The Women’s Soccer team will play the Monterey Bay Otters on Thursday, November 7, 2019 at 7 PM PST.
