With the November 3rd general election closing in, the “Get Out the Vote 2020” webpage, cultivated by Dr. Dana Nakano of the CSU Stanislaus Sociology department and student volunteers, serves as a compilation of voting information for the 6 county service regions of Stan State.
Nakano’s goal with the webpage has been getting not only students, but faculty and the wider community involved in the electoral process by providing a go-to of accessible and understandable information surrounding voter registration and ways to vote, especially in the climate of the pandemic.
The site offers up information on the voting procedures of Calaveras, Mariposa, Merced, San Joaquin, Stanislaus, and Tuolumne counties, as well as links to the official websites of these counties for those who need it. “Get Out the Vote 2020” also details each county’s polling places and drop-box locations along with their hours of operation as well as exactly what can be done at each location. Additionally, the contact information is provided for the various elections offices.
Nakano expressed the need for the drop-box details, saying that many of them are located inside of local businesses and, therefore, can only be accessed during their hours of operation. She says that with the “Get Out the Vote 2020” site, people can find that information in one convenient setting.
For those still looking to vote in person, Nakano mentioned that same-day voter registration is still an option, you just have to go to your local voting center to do so. As for the 6 counties on featured on the site, many of their early voting opens throughout the course of this weekend.
The November 3rd general election deadline is coming up fast, but you still have time to make your position known by the cast of your vote. To quote Dr, Nakano, “it’s a non-partisan issue. It’s not about whether or not you’re a Democrat, Republican, an Independent, Green Party or whatever. Voting is important for all of us.”
“Get Out the Vote 2020” provides the information to help you no matter who you are or what your beliefs may be.
