The new Student Center is being constructed and students are excited for the center.
Allysa Gonzalez, The University Student Union (USU) Board Chair has been a part of the planning process her entire term that she has been a board member.
For Gonzalez, now that they have started construction on the New Stan State, it is “a bittersweet feeling since this project has been a collaborative effort and been ongoing for the past several years and my entire term as a board member.”
The hardest part in planning the New Stan State for Gonzalez was the fee increase.
“We had several long conversations on what would be most feasible and what price made sense for students in the future. I don’t receive financial aid myself so everything I have to pay for in regards to my University experience whether it be academic or not, is all out of pocket. That is why myself in conjunction with other board members kept the pricing in mind,” said Gonzalez.
Gonzalez is excited for what is to come because she thinks that “students will be blown away with excitement once they see the new building because it is nothing this campus has ever seen before.”
For other students, excitement is on their mind as the University begins construction for the New Stan State.
Jordan Fisher (sophomore, Pre-Nursing) is very excited to see more students staying and interacting on campus. however, she has mixed feelings about the construction.
“I feel like right now the construction is a little bit of a burden but I’m also excited about the positive impact that the New Stan State will have on the students and the community when it’s finished,” said Fisher
Veronica Reyes, (junior, Sociology) said that what she is most excited about is “the layout and new atmosphere it will provide for incoming students.”
However, like Fisher, Reyes also has mixed emotions about the construction.
“I am sad because I will graduate before it is finished, yet excited that the incoming students will get to enjoy it,” Reyes said.
Marlenne Escobar, (junior, Kinesiology) said that she “Can’t wait until the New Stan State is up and running.”
According to Gonzalez the new Student Union is expected to finish the construction in 2019, with its grand opening in the Spring of 2020.
