Candidates for Homecoming King and Queen 2018 and their friends are preparing for the week of Homecoming with events planned up until Thursday night’s basketball game against Chico State.
Alicia Rojas (sophomore, Business), a member of Delta Phi Gamma, is one of the candidates for Homecoming Queen and she looks forward to “the creativity everyone brings and just the creativity everyone’s gonna come up with. I feel like there’s going to be a lot of fun things, funny moments, and creativity.”
She also said she was excited for this week’s Warrior Wednesday: “…it’s going to be like everyone’s out there. I think I’m looking forward to seeing my friends come and support.”
Uriel Villaseñor (sophomore, Criminal Justice), a member of Theta Chi, is also one of the candidates for Homecoming King. One of the things he looks forward to is, “competing against the other organizations on campus. Our fraternity loves to compete.”
He also said that he was most excited for “the showing of the Carpool Karaoke. I think we have a really entertaining video with really fun staff like Victor and Josh who are my supervisors at the Student Recreation Center.”
Not only are these candidates excited for Homecoming Week, but their entourage, brothers, and sisters are also excited.
Maria Mirales (senior, Business), also member of the Delta Phi Gamma sorority, said that she loves the unity that happens among Greek organizations when participating in Homecoming events.
“The fact that everybody comes together, and they do all the events together. They have fun, they talk, and you really see a different side of Greek life and that’s what I look forward to the most when it comes to game day because you see that aspect more,” Mireles said.
Homecoming couldn’t have been done without those who helped plan it, including Jocelyn Castellanos, the Associate Students, Inc. (ASI) Admins Support Coordinator – Programs.
“We have been preparing for Homecoming Week since about the beginning of November,” Castellanos said. “Just making sure not to overlook the small details…” but even though Homecoming Week is difficult it, “is definitely worth the hard work because seeing our students have a great time is always rewarding!”
Being a candidate requires the candidates to participate in a series of events throughout the week, including their entourage.
“Whatever Uriel [Villaseñor] needs, there’s a bro ready there to help. From shooting the carpool karaoke to shooting back and forth about ideas,” Theta Chi President Gore Hayer (senior, Biology) said.
“Homecoming is all about just having a great time, bonding with peers, and showing off your school spirit,” Castellanos said. “We just encourage all our students to enjoy themselves and have a great time celebrating this fun week with us!”
