The Warriors took on Notre Dame De Namur in their second basketball game of the season.
At the start of the game, the Warriors saw an exchange of three-point shots back and forth between both teams with Rolaun Dunham (senior, Kinesiology) hitting three straight threes to start off the team’s night.
Notre Dame would pull ahead early in the first half. The Warriors were unable to reclaim any lead in the first half, but they were able to keep it close, ending the first half down one point at 34-35.
Stan State’s Coach Paul Trevor on the sidelines could be seen saying that the team was “just running around, not running anywhere on the court with a purpose.”
Trevor’s message must have been a strong one in the locker room because the Warriors came out knocking down shots for a 19-8 run in the first 10 minutes of the second half.
Behind a strong second half, the Warriors were able to take advantage of Notre Dame’s 18 turnovers and came out on top to start 2-0 on their young season with the score ending at 75-61.
Dunham, in the season preview of the Warriors Basketball preview, exclaimed that he was ready for the season and that his confidence was back. Rolaun showed that he was ready to prove what he was made of that Saturday night as he finished with 13 points, 3 rebounds and an assist along with hitting four of his five attempts at three-point shots.
Dunham said he had woken up that morning “in some pain,” which worried him. “But I came out tonight and felt great. I played 28 minutes tonight and that’s the longest I’ve played in a long time,” said Dunham.
Ty Davis (junior, History) was also in the scoring picture as he seemed to be driving to the hoop all night hitting multiple layups. Davis finished with 12 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists.
Davis said after the game, “I came out a bit sluggish in the first half, but I decided to be aggressive, find the open lane and I felt like I did that well in the second half.”
The Warrior looked good in their first two games of the season, winning by double digits and finishing strong.
Coach Trevor added after the game that, “This is a good ship to be on.”
“We got a great group of guys that are here to play,” Trevor said. The Warriors have proved their coach to be correct thus far.
The Warriors look to continue their success on the road as they head to University of the Pacific to take on the Tigers on Tuesday.
