On Oct. 27, Associated Students Inc. (ASI) took Stan State students on a trip to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom for its annual Fright Fest. Fright Fest is a Halloween addition to the Six Flags park in Vallejo. This year’s Fright Fest runs from Sept. 21 – Oct. 31.
The tickets for Fright Fest through ASI were $35; only a limited amount attended the event with Stan State. The trip was a part of ASI’s Weekend Warrior program, which consists of different adventures to various places, from concerts to amusement parks. A charter bus took students from Stan State to the Six Flags park in Vallejo. The trip consisted of many scares and screams. 
The entrance of the park displays various decorations in the windows and maps for all the scary attractions like the haunted mazes and corn maze, as well as gives the locations of all the rollercoasters in the whole park.
Fright Fest attendee Ashley Paiz said, “I get scared very easily and I don’t know why I let my family convince me to come to the Fright Fest at Six Flags. I was just assuming that we were only going on the rollercoasters and not staying for the haunted mansions or the freaky creatures.”
Superman Ultimate Flight is a high flying ride with a ride with a 150 foot tall still track. The ride travels over 62 mph in a matter of one second. The ride goes forward and in reverse.
The Joker is a chaotic ride, hence its name. The ride stands at over 100 feet tall, and travels over 53 mph. At the very beginning riders drop 78 degrees. The Joker ride consists of multiple twists and turns that leave you spinning.
Wonder Woman Lasso of Truth is a suspenseful ride that leaves the riders stuck in their seats. The ride holds over 40 passengers and swings back and forth like a pendulum 147 feet in the air. The ride travels over 70 mph, and each time the ride gets higher and higher it turns clockwise.
Many Fright Fest guests were nervous to get on the Wonder Woman ride. Melissa Fernandez said, “I was so scared that I was going to lose something or get sick at top. We were so high up in the right was beyond freaking out.”
Harley Quinn Crazy Coaster is a thrill seeking ride that gives the rider a spiraling twist. The ride travels over 70mph in a daring 360 foot track with multiple loops and spins.
Guests simply can’t appreciate the spookiness of Six Flags during Fright Fest during the day. At night as you are walking throughout the park, spooky characters and decorations seem to come to life.
The most famous attraction during Fright Fest in Six Flags is Arsenic & Arania Nightmare Manor. The attraction is the residence of Arsenic & Arania and people can take a tour of the house. Sources say that the owners still haunt the house to this day.
Actors wander Fright Fest dressed as terrifying characters. Some were dressed as dead brides, Chucky dolls, and zombies. The characters took their rolls seriously and definitely scared many younger attendees (and adults too!).
Multiple graves are scattered through the Six Flags park. Some of the graves have names on them, while others rename unnamed and simply read “R.I.P.” The graves add to the spooky ambiance and keep guests guessing as to what could lie beneath.
In the Scarecrow Hollow scare zone maze many scarecrows come alive to give the people a scare. Some scarecrows are nicer than others. If you don’t proceed carefully, they might jump from the shadows and come for you!
