Vasche Library staff members are set to host their largest and last book sale today and tomorrow. The sale will be going on from 9 am to 3 pm in L160, which is near the Office of Information Technology (OIT) Support Center.
The book sale will be composed primarily of donations and books that were deselected from the library in order to raise more money. There will be a wide range of topics to choose from that include, but are not limited to, history, classic literature, popular literature, sports and cookbooks.
Maryann Hight, the Reference and Instruction Librarian in Vasche Library, said she hopes they raise enough money to be able to contribute to the campus community. “About half of the money we make will be used to purchase food for the student food bank,” Hight said. “We are happy to be able to do that.”
Due to the upcoming library renovations, Kevin Augustine, the Research and Learning Services Librarian, along with Hight, decided it was time to move some of the books into storage, deselect them and go through the donations, which made it the perfect time for a book sale. “It’s a great collection to offer the campus and community,” Augustine said.
“We are really focusing on what is needed to take with us versus what we want, and this is a great project for that,” Augustine said. “It reinforces our want to get books into everyone’s hands.”
Along with less storage for books, there is also not enough room for the large collection of posters the library staff has collected over the past 11 years. Because of this, they will also be on sale.
A collection of lost belongings that the library staff have accumulated over time or that have been found in the offices will also be on sale. This was decided, Augustine said, because they “would rather move it and maybe someone will enjoy it more so than it just being thrown away.”
“We are ready to roll,” Augustine expressed about the progress made on the bookstore.
The book sale was a collaboration between Hight, Augustine and Amy Egan, the Administrative Support Coordinator. “We have Amy [Egan] who is doing the administrative side, Maryann [Hight] who brings in the experience and background of doing this before and that helps me as a young librarian of figuring it out and how to do this in the future,” Augustine said.
Hardcover books will be $2 and paperback books will be $1. During the last two hours of the book sale on Thursday, you can bring a bag and fill as many books as you can for only $1. Any leftover books will go to the public library.
If there are any questions regarding where the book sale is located, ask the librarians and they will guide you there.
