Stan State has a long standing tradition of hosting the annual fireworks display on campus. This year, Stan State is partnering with the City of Turlock to keep the tradition alive.
Dr. Rosalee Rush, Senior Associate Vice President of Communications & Public Affairs, explained the value of hosting this event.
“Last year, it was estimated that more than 1,500 community members came to campus to view the display, which the University views as an important aspect of the traditional holiday celebration,” Dr. Rush said. “For many this is their first introduction to the University, which values every opportunity to invite the community to campus.”
With the amount people attending this event, the University does everything it can to ensure a safe and fun environment.
Dr. Rush explained part of the University’s role in putting on this event.
“Naturally, members of our facilities department assist with setting up the areas for people to view the display. The University Police Department and members of our Public Affairs team also are on hand to help ensure a safe and fun event,” Dr. Rush said.
Members of the community offered some of their tips to ensure a fun time as well.
Kristy Jacobson, Stan State Alumna and Manteca resident, gave her advice to people who may be thinking about attending for the first time.
“My tips would be go a little early, bring some yummy snacks, and find a good place to park it until the big show. Just enjoy time with the people you are with,” Jacobson said.
Some previous visitors said that parking and traffic were of biggest concern.
“Get there early, be patient with traffic to avoid accidents, be comfortable dealing with crowds and plan ahead” said Stan State alumnus and Turlock resident, Brandon McMillan.
Mikey Pickerel, Modesto, added “I’d want to go a lot earlier to get parking because that was probably the biggest issue.”
In addition to traffic concerns, community members emphasised bringing your own lawn chairs or blankets to sit on.
This event is a perfect opportunity to enjoy a traditional holiday celebration with family and friends. The fireworks display begins at sunset.
