Warriors only have one day left to see some tiny art from students here at Stan State. Tiny Print is a collaborative exhibition showcasing prints from Print Club members and students from the Art department. This exhibition is student-run and showcases varieties of styles of printing.
Hayley Simon, Arts Major & Curator of the Tiny Print had this to say about the prints: “The artists are exchanging an edition of 25 prints amongst themselves and were allowed to do what is called an “edition variable” if they so choose. Some artists made unique 25 prints and others stuck to a traditional edition of prints. The show features one print from each that I selected. I received a wide range of types of printmaking such as relief, screen print, intaglio, and even digital prints.”
Hayley also talked about why they decided to do “tiny” prints exhibition. “At CSU Stanislaus, I think the students in general need to be exposed to more artwork made by their classmates as well as have the opportunity to participate in a student-run exhibition, no matter how tiny the space is. There are challenges for different artists to work small scale as there are for working much, much larger. Some might find it challenging to keep the viewers interested in something small, others might have a harder time making smaller marks or printing tiny.”
Vanessa Aguilera, Senior Mixed Media Major had this to say about tiny piece and why warriors should come to check out these tiny prints.
“[This piece] took me about 4 or 5 hours, I traced it and transferred it to linoleum for print. I’ve been working with print since 2016. [Tiny Print] is different artists, some from other schools. It’s something different and there is color, different technique, and different styles.”
Art Department Tech of 6 years, Andrew Cain participated in Tiny Print and had this to say about his piece, Violence is Cute.
“It’s screen print that is on top of laser etched piece of paper. It’s a varied edition, so they’re all different. There’re different ones with digital prints on top of them and they’re all pretty different. The title of mine is Violence is Cute and so I was thinking of tiny things and handguns. I like when people laugh when they look at things.”
He also mentioned what warriors can expect to see at this exhibition: “Art doesn’t come in giant sizes all the time sometimes little intimate things are just as good as big things.”
Tiny Print is located in Stanislaus State’s Art Department Building- A8, in Lobby 1 from 8am-5pm. The last day to experience ‘tiny’ art is Friday, December 7th, 2018.
