Hi book lovers!
Just because the school year is over, doesn’t mean our book club is! The Signal’s book club will be meeting in June, July, as well as in August when the 2020-21 school year picks back up. We have exciting reads in these coming months, and if you want to join us, now is the perfect time.
June Pick- “The Perks of Being a Wallflower”
Our June read is Stephen Chbosky’s “The Perks of Being a Wallflower”. Originally published in 1998 before being made into a movie in 2012, the story follows Charlie, a teenager whose letters penned to an unknown friend serve as the driving force for the story.
These letters follow him as he navigates through high school friendships, relationships, and all of the accompanying ups and downs. If you want to get a feel for the book before choosing whether or not to join us, the film, starring Logan Lerman, Emma Watson, Mae Whitman and Ezra Miller, is available to stream on Netflix.
You can find this book on amazon, in physical, kindle, and audiobook form. If you’d like to purchase a copy, follow this link.
July Pick- “Uncommon Type”
Our July pick is one that’s been on my “to-read” list for a while, so I’m very excited! In July, we will be reading Tom Hank’s “Uncommon Type”, which is a collection of short stories from the beloved actor. Sometimes collections like these don’t have much in common besides the themes that are explored. However, Hanks created these narratives to interact with each other.
This book is available on Amazon in its physical, kindle, and audiobook formats. Click through to find the book for purchase here.
August Pick- “The Authenticity Project”
This August we will be reading “The Authenticity Project” by Clare Pooley. A story that starts with a mission, one which seeks to look past the fronts that people present in their day-to-day lives. It follows its cast of characters who share glimpses into their lives and leave the little green notebook for others to do the same.
As stated on the book’s amazon page, “It’s a story about being brave and putting your real self forward— and finding out that it’s not as scary as it seems. In fact, it looks a lot like happiness.”
If interested in purchasing this piece, you can find its physical, kindle, and audiobook versions here.
If you want to find your next beach read, feel free to fill out the form here and join us for this month’s discussion! Hope to see you there.
