California State University, Stanislaus’ (Stan State), Alumni Association hosted a Vines event on March 10. The event was enchanted with a cool breeze fitting for an evening of “Wine, Brew, & Bites” at the Fitzpatrick Arena.
According to the Vines 2016 website, the event contributed to student scholarships, alumni programs and campus projects.
There were 17 wine exhibitors, including Ironstone Vineyards, Klinker Brick Winery and Louis M. Martini Winery. There were about five brewing companies including Dust Bowl Brewing Company. “Bites” included companies such as Bistro 234, Chartwells and Hilmar Cheese Company.
Vines 2016 also hosted a silent auction. All gifts and donations benefited toward scholarships, programs and projects at Stan State. According to their promotions, Alumni Relations anticipated 350 guests to attend the event.
The event is highly respected and notably known to have success every year.
“I think it’s a great way to raise money for students and the university overall,” Administrative Support Coordinator to the Department of Communication Studies Illene Ruesga said. “It’s a fun way to have the community involved and the students of course, and everybody else that put a lot of thought and effort into it. I always hear it’s a great success.”
Ruesga volunteered at Vines 2016 and emphasized the importance of networking.
“It’s a great way to network,” Ruesga said. “I’m sure I’ll know people once I get there, but if I don’t then it would be nice to know who else is out there contributing to the university and the community. Sometimes you know people by name, but you don’t know them, per say. So it’s going to be nice to put a face to a name or to an email.”
The 2016 sponsors rest within three categories: Reserve sponsors ($3,000) included Huff Construction Co., Inc., Vineyard sponsors ($5,000) included the Turlock Journal and Emanuel Medical Hospital and Sommelier sponsors ($10,000) included organizations such as E. & J. Gallo Winery and Nora and Hashem Naraghi (benefactors of the the Naraghi Hall of Science).
According to the Alumni Relations website, Stan State alumni are encouraged to stay in touch with updates and news relating to their alma mater. Events such as Vines 2016 show the strength and payoff of the Alumni Relations’ efforts
Stan State holds a collection of organizations and programs that show how significant and vital these fundraisers are to the entire University. The Alumni Relations fundraisers, such as Vines, show the importance of displaying the community and support there is for education.
