If you’re looking for some fun and inexpensive things to do this semester, look no further because the University Student Union (USU) has you covered with the Weekend Warrior Program.
The Weekend Warrior Program was developed to provide California State University, Stanislaus (Stan State), students with fun and inexpensive activities throughout the semester.
“The goal of the program is to provide students with an affordable option to get out and have fun,” USU Weekend Warrior Coordinator Cynthia Nunez said. “Students are given the chance to take a night off on weekends or select weeknights and attend an event without having to worry about price or transportation, as prices are reasonable and transportation is provided. Students are able to interact with other students that they may not have the opportunity to meet during school hours.”
The events vary from concerts, sporting events and even theme parks. All of the events are chosen by the USU Weekend Warrior Coordinator and are chosen based on date, location and cost.
This semester, there are five scheduled events including a San Jose Sharks game, a Carrie Underwood concert, a Golden State Warriors game, tickets to The Price is Right Live and a trip to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk.
All of these trips are only a fraction of standard general admission, and that includes transportation.
“The program is able to get discounted prices because we buy a sizeable amount of tickets through group sales,” Nunez said. “We look for the best options to keep the cost low for students.”
For many students, cost is an important factor when considering a trip. Jennifer Galeana (sophomore, Communication Studies) is interested in attending the Warriors game because standard ticket prices are expensive, and the fact that she doesn’t have to worry abut transportation is appealing.
“I am interested in going to the game because I am from the Bay Area and I support them” Galeana said.
The first trip, the San Jose Sharks hockey game, takes place March 10 and sign-ups begin Feb. 22.
Students can sign up and find more information at the USU Service Desk in the Warriors Activities Center. They can also visit the Weekend Warrior webpage or email the coordinator at [email protected].
