Spring Break: the delightful reminder that the semester is halfway over. Right now is the perfect time to start planning your trip if you haven’t done so already.
In case it’s not already marked on your calendar, Spring Break 2016 for California State University, Stanislaus (Stan State), will be March 28 – April 1.
Luis Magana (senior, Kinesiology) will be traveling with a group of his fraternity brothers to either Southern California or Lake Havasu, Arizona.
“Spring Break is a time for students to get away from everything and go have fun,” Magana said.
Southern California, Las Vegas and Lake Havasu seem to top the list of popular Spring Break destinations for Stan State students.
James Nelson (junior, Kinesiology) is also planning on taking a trip to SoCal and renting a beach house.
“Narrowing it [the destination] down usually comes to getting the right bang for our buck,” Nelson said. “If renting a beach house for few days seems more cost effective than paying nightly at a hotel in Vegas, then that’s what it comes down to.”
Though, not all students decide to take a trip during the break.
“The closest experience of celebrating Spring Break will be the joy of not having classes,” Jordan Elzie (senior, Criminal Justice) said.
As a member of the Stan State track team, Elzie will be competing in a track meet over the break.
“There’s no such thing as a Spring Break for a spring season athlete,” Elzie said.
A tip to save money on your Spring Break trip is to book your getaway as early as possible. For a college student who is on a budget, saving money can positively impact your overall experience.
Since Spring Break is one of the busiest travel times of the year to travel, another reason to book early is to secure your ideal spot at your chosen destination.
A recent study done by CheapAir.com estimates that the best time to book a flight is 54 days in advance from your desired departure date.
Hotels often offer “early bird” or “book early” promotions for Spring Break travel.
Save money on booking and spend it doing fun Spring Break activities like jet skiing or parasailing.

No matter where you go or what you do, make the most of the well-deserved break.
“You have to take advantage of every opportunity that you get because before you know it, you have graduated college and the real world hits,” Magana said.
