Colds, classes and clowns?! Oh My! California State University, Stanislaus (Stan State) enhances the eerie feel of the most celebrated holiday in the United States…no not Election season, Hallows Eve!
Although some may already have encountered fright fest activates throughout the month of October, there are some that will wonder, mostly parents and their children, through the intricate and friendly neighborhoods tonight. While others may stay at home on this Monday night to watch a film or two to celebrate the holiday.
According to the survey posted online via The Signal Facebook page and Twitter, a couple student responses stood out regarding their thoughts on watching Horror movies on Halloween.
“I like watching some horror films but I do not enjoy suspenseful horror films,” Oscar Copland (senior, Communication Studies) said.
“I like scary things in short bursts, usually with friends. I can’t handle anything too crazy though,”-Kat Bryant (DMA, Voice Performance) University of Kansas said.
“While I like the horror genre, it’s not my top choice. I’d much rather laugh. With that being said, I can often laugh at horror movies, both good and bad,” Jasmine Woodall (senior, Choral Music Education) said.
Most of the horror genre ranges with a variety of sub-genres, such as action horror, comedy, gothic, psychological, slasher, erotic, science fiction and zombie horror films. Although it can be quite overwhelming with not knowing what to watch, online media providers, such as Netflix.com allows you to use codes to find the right kind of genre/subgenre. A neatly organized website on netflixcodes.me directs you to a list of movies under the topic you choose.

Choosing a particular Halloween theme film can outline a prominent characteristic that stands out the most in you. According to, Ritu Singh from Zeenews (India), there are many reasons that contribute to our, horror-movie-watching experience. Some of which include, sensation-seeking (thrill-seekers), curiosity and Catharsis (release of emotions).
Others, simply do not watch horror films for the sake of salvaging their own psychological trauma or do not find the justification to watch a horror film the day of Halloween.
“Sometimes I end up watching a non-horror movie I’ve been meaning to watch (e.g. comedy, action, drama etc.). I usually end up watching horror movies year round and don’t wait for Halloween to watch something,” Woodall said
