California State University, Stanislaus (Stan State) held its Club & Organization Fair in the quad on Wednesday, Aug. 31. After several New Student Orientations (NSO) and the first-ever Freshman Convocation Ceremony over the summer, new Warriors got another chance to check out all of the new clubs that have been chartered for the fall semester.
“Clubs are trying to recruit new members because many have graduated in the spring. Gotta get some new faces,” said Jordan Porter (senior, Mathematics), the president of Stan State’s math club.
As club members sought shelter under canopies to beat the heat, Elvis Salgado (senior, Mathematics), the Reservations Coordinator for the University Student Union, made his rounds to each club table to introduce himself and give a bit of advice to the new organizations.
“Make sure that you guys have a plan and execute that plan, especially when it comes down to equipment. Tables and awnings are provided from ASI and USU for free as long as you request it from 25Live,” said Salgado.
25Live can be found on Stan State’s website under the “Students” tab, then within the “Faculty/Staff” tab. It is an online scheduling system that can be used to reserve classrooms and other spaces on campus for club meetings, events and activities.
“If you would like to request a sound system, there’s a fee for that, but we also do provide that. Enjoy your semester. You guys will be working with me throughout the academic year. If you guys have questions, stop by my office. I’m located in 202 C upstairs in the Student Union. You’re always welcome. My door is always open,” further explained Salgado.
Another go-to person for club advice is Josh Edrington, the new NSO Coordinator & Student Organization Advisor. He introduced himself to the student organization leaders before the start of the semester in an introductory email:
“For the past 11 years I have worked on the campus of Fresno State as the Coordinator for Clubs and Organizations & Major Events. I attended CSU Long Beach where I obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Recreation Leadership and Stan State where I obtained my Master’s in Public Administration. I am excited to return to Stan State and look forward to working with you and your respective organization(s). Feel free to stop by the Student Leadership and Development Office to say hello or contact me at [email protected] or (209) 667-3778.”
Even though the heat was intense, many freshmen took the time to stop at the club tables to check out the creative tri-folds that were made for the tri-fold competition. Several of them said that they were there for the same reason: to get involved on campus and make the most out of their college experience.
If you’re interested in getting involved, check out Stan Sync, the school’s new online student portal for clubs and organizations, and you can go to Stan State’s website for more information.
