Good company, good food and plenty of beer; that is what can be found at the newly opened Dust Bowl Brewery Co. Taproom (Dust Bowl) located at 3000 Fulkerth Rd. in Turlock.
I visited the brewery recently during the week and I was delighted to be given a short wait time. The large patio area offers a welcoming atmosphere for the afternoon crowd with an outdoor view.
Indoor seating provides an up close view of the brewing operation that can be seen through clear glass.
“You’re inside but still getting the experience of being outside,” said Cayla Donahue (Junior, Liberal Studies).
The new brewing operation will allow Dust Bowl to brew approximately four to five times as many barrels annually than previous production years.
The extended 20 tap towers, 20 person bar seating, and industrial style design reflects a more serious vibe in comparison to it’s downtown counterpart located on Main St.
However, the dim lighting and close quarters seating contribute to making it feel like a personal dining affair.
The Fish and Chips Sampler was ordered for the table. When it arrived, the aroma of the garlic fries immediately stood out.
Along with the sampler, I ordered a Triple Grilled Cheese that was the highlight of my culinary experience.
Donahue has experienced both taproom locations and visited the Fulkerth location taproom on a Sunday. She experienced a hefty 45 minute wait during dinner hour.
During her visit she ordered the Squeakers, an appetizer that oozes quality Hilmar Cheese Factory cheese coupled with a beer batter and topped off with a classic Hops of Wrath, a flavor signature to Dust Bowl.
Beyond the menu Dust Bowl offers entertainment for all ages.
The spacious, grassy area is perfect for pets to mosey through and equipped with child-like games scaled for adults.
With the usage of the large barrels as tables, I was able to play Jenga while keeping my beverage close at hand.
The addition of the second Dust Bowl Taproom is a classy yet comfortable place for students and professionals in the community alike to enjoy a meal together in a relaxed atmosphere.
Plan ahead for optimal wait time by calling (209)250-2043 to check for available seating.
Dust Bowl’s hours of operations are Monday to Saturday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
