R6 CrossFit in Turlock is more than just a gym. Its members say it’s a supportive community where people of all fitness levels come together to challenge themselves and grow stronger. Whether you’re an experienced athlete or new to fitness, R6 CrossFit offers a friendly and engaging atmosphere where everyone is encouraged to succeed.
Marcos Rivera and his wife, Maria, started R6 CrossFit from scratch. They aimed to make a place where fitness was more than exercise. They envisioned a community where people could form strong bonds and make positive life changes.
“The pandemic allowed us to turn our passion for CrossFit into a local business. We wanted to offer Turlock a place where people could feel a sense of belonging while working toward their health goals,” said Rivera. Sharing this philosophy is why members keep coming back daily.
For Sam Mello, a coach at R6, the strong sense of community sets R6 apart.
“When you step through the doors, you’re not just a name on a roster. You become part of the R6 family,” he said.
At R6 CrossFit, a typical class starts with a warm-up, focuses on strength or skill, and finishes with the day’s workout, or “WOD.” What makes the experience unique is that each workout is customized to fit individual abilities.
“We can scale any movement for someone who’s never lifted a weight and challenge even the most seasoned athletes,” Mello said.
Denise Fowler, a former collegiate track athlete, rediscovered her competitive edge through CrossFit, attracted by its flexibility.
“I needed something that kept me motivated and challenged, and CrossFit does that in a way nothing else can. Plus, having someone coach me through each workout has been amazing,” Fowler said.
Fowler enjoys teaching workouts that include snatches and wall balls because she likes seeing members push through their discomfort and succeed in movements they once dreaded.
At R6 CrossFit, the strong sense of community is what sets it apart. Nic Romeo, a member for four years, recalls that although his first workout was challenging, the group’s support motivated him to return.
“There’s this buzz you feel after pushing yourself, and the support you get from everyone in the room is unreal. It’s like a group of friends all cheering you on,” he said.
Christina Langley, another long-time member, shares the same feeling.
“I remember feeling insecure during my first class, but the people here are encouraging. I’m still here four years later, loving every minute,” Langley said.
Langley recently participated in a multi-day CrossFit competition, something she never thought she would do when she first joined.
“R6 isn’t just about lifting weights—it’s about building confidence in yourself,” she added.
Glorybelle Lillie, a member who started CrossFit at 55, proudly shares how she’s never felt more energized.
“If I can do it, anyone can! R6 has given me the tools to stay healthy, and my friendships here keep me returning,” Lillie said.
The R6 CrossFit coaches care about every member’s physical and emotional success.
“We care about each workout’s quality and make sure no one gets injured. It’s about consistency, staying healthy, and making fitness fun,” Rivera said.
At R6 CrossFit, Stan State students and faculty can do more than exercise. It’s a place to meet new people, get healthier, and push your limits in new ways. If you want a gym that’s all about support, having fun, and getting actual results, then R6 CrossFit is the spot for you.
“Just come in and try a class—you won’t regret it,” Nic Romeo said.

WOW! This place literally sounds like home. I have long time wanted learn how to lift weights and tried getting a coach at a gym not locally owned. The “coach” only met with me once and I was then left in the dark. After a few months, I stopped going as I had no help. R6 sound like a true gym which I will now look into.
