Pitman High School student journalists visited Stan State on Monday last week to peek into the print shop, where their campus newspaper, The Roaring Times, produces its print edition, alongside getting a glimpse at the amenities, courses and programs offered, which excited many of them as it was their first time on a college campus.
Students were particularly surprised at the amount of services that are offered with their tuition, such as access to the Health Center, the Vasche Library, and the Student Center.
“Information that I felt was valuable came from when we were by the Student Center and [the tour guide] was talking about the experiences of students and what, like, benefits they get by simply attending this school,” Vien Santiago, said.
Students were also excited by the niche programs and educational spaces offered for particular academic and research pursuits, in contrast to the very generalized nature of their high school. [Student] explained that the tour gave their class insight into how the university can support their interests.
“It definitely gave everybody kind of an idea of what Stan State has and what really, depending on what you’re interested in, what you can find at Stan State,” said Athena Brown, a freshman.
The high schoolers were also amazed by the wide variety of food options and the presence of a chef at the Warrior Grill.
“The way that there were so many choices and a whole chef there, like, making stuff, that just shocked me,” Christian Komi, a freshman, said.
