As the fall semester concludes, The CSU Stanislaus sports teams are thriving as a group in this year’s season representing in the CCAA (California Collegiate Athletic Association) conference.
What a season the Fall sports have had! Volleyball, men and women’s cross country, and men and women’s soccer have all concluded their season and have many achievements to celebrate.
The volleyball team finished 22-8 which is the record for the most wins in Stan State volleyball history. They won their first ever CCAA Tournament Championship and received an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Volleyball Championship. They headed into that tournament being ranked 24th nationally.
Gabby Rawson, Malia Tanskley, Alex Byrd, Haley Burdo, Autumn Kirby, and Makenna Carrillo received all conference awards for this season. Rawson received Libero of the Year and was the only Warrior to do that twice in her career. Tanskley earned Freshman of the Year with her dominant performance this season. Ellison Weaver was named Most Valuable Player in the CCAA Tournament. Burdo, Byrd, Rawson, and Isabella Saucedo were selected to the All-Tournament Team.
Burdo, Rawson, and Byrd, three seniors from this year’s graduating class, are now the all time leaders in assists, digs, and blocks. Rawson continued her list of accolades by receiving All-West Region First Team and was an honorable mention in the AVCA All-West Region and as an AVCA All-American.
Men’s Cross Country captured 3rd in the CCAA Championships with three runners placing in the top 15. With these performances, Tanner Gerhart, Jackson Oliveira, and Mason Oliveira received All-CCAA honors.
Gerhart received CCAA Newcomer of the Year, and Oliveira earned Freshman of the Year. This team finished 6th at the West Regionals with All-West Region honoree Abe Alsaidi finishing 25th in his race. The Warriors were also ranked nationally as 29th in the sixth week of the season.
The Stan State Women’s Cross Country team advanced to the National Championships. They finished in 24th prior to their 5th place finish in the regionals. Two warriors, Annie Wild, and Jacqueline Sanchez-Silva both concluded their season as All-West region honorees.
At the CCAA Championships, the Warriors finished in 2nd with Wild, Sanchez-Silva, and Crystal Hernandez finishing in the top 15. The women also reached being ranked 21st in the nation, while also being ranked in the top 25 for seven weeks straight!
Women’s soccer finished the season with a 10-8-2 record and made it to the CCAA Tournament. The Warriors defeated Cal Poly Humboldt in the first round. Although falling in the second, Aliah Avila, Shauna Johnston, Kaley Miller, Jocelin Roa, and Makeila Yancy made all-conference.
Avila had a spectacular season as she was titled 2024 Midfielder of the Year. She was named to the All Tournament selection team, and she was on the All-West region team and listed as an All American Honorable Mention.
The men’s soccer team finished 7-6-5, making it their first winning season since 2015. Just missing their clinch for the CCAA Tournament, Edgar Castaneda, Alecxander Cuellar, Angel Ruiz-Hernandez, and Sammy Villanueva received all-conference honors. This year’s team has turned around their program hoping to continue success in future years.
As we wrap up the fall semester, the Men and Women’s Basketball teams will still be battling during the break as a winter sport. They will continue their second half of play in the 2025 spring semester and that will start the beginning of baseball, softball, and men and women’s track and field.
Men’s Golf will be continuing their play as well and head into the postseason later on. Women’s indoor track and field have started their season, but they are independent from the CCAA conference. Spring also marks the start of tennis season, but they compete in the PacWest conference.
The Warrior teams have accomplished so much this season. The rest of the teams are looking to continue the success throughout the remainder of the school year. Upcoming games and the season schedule for all teams can be found on the Signal website.
