Dear Editor,

I appreciated The Signal’s recent coverage in “TPUSA Storms the Valley—Who Are They and What Are Their Tactics?”(April 23, 2025). As a political science student at Stanislaus State, I believe it’s essential that we closely examine how national political groups engage with our campus community.

While Turning Point USA has every right to promote its views, we must remain aware of how such organizations operate, especially when their tactics risk fueling division or silencing others. As a queer Latina I believe that a commitment to free speech should never come at the expense of respectful dialogue or student safety.

Our campus should be a space where diverse perspectives are encouraged—but also where inclusivity and mutual respect are non-negotiable. I hope this article sparks more critical discussions around political presence on campus and the values we want to uphold as a university.

Sincerely,

Mireya Reyes

Stanislaus State Student
