The Stan State Student Center hosted its fourth annual student art showcase, inviting the campus community to admire an array of creative works. The art show featured several diverse mediums from digital art and sketches to prints and paintings, all crafted by Stan State Students.
The event was organized by the SC Leadership Student Assistant Kimberly Virrueta (Senior, Psychology) and Jelaine Esguerra (Senior, Psychology), the Student Center Chair, in collaboration with the Student Center staff.
“The event has been going on for four years now,” Esguerra said. “What’s nice about the event is that it was brought on from student initiative. It’s one of the events where we can see students come together and express themselves in ways you normally don’t see throughout the school year. We’re able to see student creativity come to life. When we purchase some of the student-created pieces, it’s nice to see them throughout the student center.”

Virrueta shared her excitement for the showcase and reflected on how art can mean something different to everyone who views it.
“We look forward to seeing every kind of art today. Art is essentially in the eye of the beholder, what you define art to be. What’s exciting about this event is seeing how student artists bring their ideas to life,” Virrueta said.
Among the featured artists was Eveyanna Leon (Sophomore, Art), who shared how rewarding it felt to see her artwork come to life.
“I usually never put my art out there, but I thought the student art show would be a perfect way to showcase some of it. Printmaking is my favorite medium to work on right now. It’s time-consuming, but the attention to detail makes it worth it,” Leon said.
Leon’s featured print, Devotion, was created for an art final in Spring 2025. The piece is one of eight she completed within two weeks at Stan State’s art studio.. The materials used for this piece include linoleum block, Gamblin ink and gouache paint to bring her vision to life.

Students who attended described the atmosphere as calm and gallery-like, appreciating both the art and the environment the Student Center created.
Averie Stockeland (Junior, Political Science) said, “The student art showcase is one of my favorite events that the Student Center puts on. It’s nice to see the art pieces students worked on, and the different styles of art featured in the showcase.”
Amee Gonzalez (Junior, Psychology) shared how she liked the way the event was set up and everything provided to guests of the showcase.
“I would definitely say the event is giving art gallery. I like the way everything is set up and that refreshments and snacks are provided.”
