On March 16, Modesto is hosting a Gnarly 5K Neon Color Run to benefit the Society for Handicapped Children and Adults. The run will begin at 9 a.m. in Tuolumne River Regional Park.
The last day to register online for the run in Modesto is March 3. There is no age limit just as long as you can run, skip, hop or jog the distance. The event is not timed, but there are still defined hours.
“Just the fact that all age groups can participate is huge, because it shows that anyone and everyone can help [raise money],” Nicole Jenkins (senior, Business) said. “It would be super fun to run around and get drenched in neon colors.”
The easiest way to pay and register for the run is by going online to gnarlyneon5k.com. They do offer discounts on groups of 4 or more, in which you get five dollars off. Kids tickets are discounted as well.
Prior to the start of the race participants will receive a free pair of gnarly neon sunglasses while being entertained with live music from a DJ. Neon colors will shower down on runners, who are encouraged to wear white. There is no dress code, however, so you can wear any type of unique costume that you choose.
“I think it’s a great way to raise money for the handicapped because it’s a fun event, and it gets a lot of people involved,” Jenkins said.
The neon colors will stain your clothes and may possibly stain your hair and the inside of your car. The paint clouds occur at various locations, so runners concerned about breathing in the gnarly gasses are encouraged to wear a mask.
If you have any questions regarding the race, you can visit the website. The site also explains when and where other races will be held.
