Wellness Week 2013 filled the quad with excitement all week long. Every day brought a new, interesting event with a great atmosphere, informative games and free giveaways.
Making healthier choices and being active were incorporated into every event. Donnie Frazier, Wellness Coordinator (senior, Sociology) explained the goal for the weeklong events.
“[This week we will be] Promoting health and wellness with a focus on fitness and relaxation,” Frazier said.
The week started off with “Most Important Monday.” Free pancakes were given away to encourage students to eat breakfast everyday. With the help of Chartwells, Code Red Entertainment gave away 200 vouchers for pancakes to students on Monday.
Tuesday followed up with “7 things NOT to do.” The event informed students of things not to do after eating, in order to adjust our unconscious habits.
How to treat your body post-consumption was the main topic of the day. Trivia, informational games and even free massages were available.
Wednesday’s event was the “Farmer’s Market,” which offered fresh produce for discounted prices. The event demonstrated the convenience of shopping on campus to students.
“Thirsty Thursday” promoted responsible drinking by providing booths that reminded students of the hazards of alcohol. Mocktails and water pong sessions were the fun alcohol-free activities of the day.
“A healthier life is a happy life,” Maribel Saucedo (junior, Kinesiology) said.
Thursday also provided “Yoga for Yogurt” that took place in the Students Recreation Complex. Code Red Entertainment promoted yoga sessions available here on campus while giving out gift cards to Brain Freeze Yogurt.
The week finished off with “Fit Friday,” promoting fitness and well-being through exercise.
“[This taught students] where to get fit, how to get fit and why you should get fit,” Frazier said.
The finale of the week offered music, more booths and a dunk tank. Raffle tickets were collected all week long for a drawing on Friday which gave students the chance to win a juicer or a George Foreman Grill.
Students enjoyed the fun atmosphere of each event and all that Wellness Week had to offer.
“[This week helped me] learn better ways to enhance my health and live a healthier life,” Diego Martinez (junior, Kinesiology) said.
