Warrior Softball suffers loss to Humboldt State

ARCATA- Warriors softball lost two doubleheaders against the Humboldt State Lumberjacks during their games on Friday (6-4) (7-0), and Saturday (11-3) (5-2).
During Friday’s first game, freshman catcher Amy Droege batted in senior third baseman Lauren Liming who scored the first run. The first run sustained the Warrior’s lead until the bottom of the third inning when Humboldt tied up the game.  The Lumberjacks prevailed in the bottom of the fifth inning as they scored five runs.
“We came out strong and played great defense all weekend, we just fell a little short with our bats,” said Droege.
Coming back with determination, the Warriors scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.  Sophomore outfielder Cierrah Mullins hit the homerun which batted in senior pitcher Brittani Weatherford and senior second baseman Sarah Locarnini.
The second game of Friday’s doubleheader was difficult for the Warriors. The Lumberjacks scored seven runs within five innings, which gave Humboldt the win for the first doubleheader.
The first game of Saturday’s doubleheader started off strong in the Warriors favor. The Warriors were up 3-0, due to Liming’s home run which batted in both Locarnini and Weatherford.
The Warrior’s lead was not matched until the bottom of the third inning when the Lumberjacks tied up the game. Humboldt quickly scored an additional eight runs by the bottom of the fifth inning and sustained that lead until the games end.
Saturday’s second game began with a solid first inning for the Warriors as Liming hit a double, batting in both junior outfielder Kristan Burns and Locarnini.  The Warriors lead was not overcome by Humboldt until proceeding into extra innings.
“This weekend has definitely lit a fire for us and given us a lot of insight to playing our game, Stanislaus softball,” said Droege.
