AZUSA – The Warriors track and field team had outstanding performances against their many steep competitors during the Bryan Clay Invitational at Azusa Pacific University last weekend.
The women’s track and field team earned many high rankings during their Thursday and Friday competition.
Some highlights include that of junior Dallas Campbell, who placed fourth in the 5000 Meter with a time of 17:52.21, and sophomore Chavariana Ryan, who placed seventh in the 400 Meter with a time of 56.76.
Also doing well this weekend were seniors Rachel Naranjo, who placed seventh in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 11:12.39, and Noel Wright, who placed 10th in the hammer throw with a throw of 155 feet, 1 inch.
“Overall this week’s meet proved exciting for everyone,” said Campbell.
“This is the time where all our training and dedication to the sport since January starts to shine, and it’s really exciting to see results pumping through the entire team.”
The men’s track and field team stood out as many placed in the top ten. Senior pole vaulter Caleb Monticalvo dominated men’s pole vault earning first place in the competition, with a height of 16 feet, five and one-half inch. Teammate junior Kyle Maxwell ranked seventh place in the pole vault with a height of 15 feet, four and one half inch.
Warriors men took over the hammer throw, with three athletes ranking in the top ten. Senior Thomas Gesser placed fourth with a throw of 181 feet, eight inches, while juniors Ryan Gates placed seventh with a throw of 176 feet, three inches, and Josh Uikilifi placed eighth with a throw of 173 feet, nine inches.
“We plan on doing big things at Conference, and can’t wait to feed off of the positive energy from one another,” said Gesser.
The Warriors track and field team will be competing at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational this weekend at UC Berkeley.
