Cooking happens to be a passion for a lot of people. But as college students we have very little time to spend in the kitchen between dealing with work, homework, midterms and much more. We tend to fall back on fast food chain restaurants or microwavable food and sacrifice homemade food.
Try out dishes which are easy to cook, less time consuming and delicious. To make sure that you can come up with fast delicious recipes to satisfy your taste buds and your busy schedule, use the following guidelines:
Chop onions, tomatoes and vegetables and keep them in your refrigerator. This will help you cook faster and save time.
Ensure that you have as many kitchen appliances as possible, like a mixer, grinder, rice cooker, slow cooker, etc. They will help you cook food items faster.
If you are cooking only one meal, cook more than what you really need. You can have the leftovers for your lunch or breakfast the next day.
Make use of your time. There are some recipes that are quick to prepare but take more time to cook. If you use your time wisely you can sauté or season the food in a few minutes and do other work while it cooks.
One of my favorite dishes is tortilla chicken. With this fun and easy recipe, tortilla chips work as a tasty breading for pan-fried chicken. This is a great meal and you can adjust the number of chicken breasts depending on how many people you are feeding.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup tortilla chip crumbs or corn chip crumbs, crushed
- 1 egg
- Cooking oil
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breast halves
- Salsa (can be homemade salsa or bought)
- Monterey jack cheese (shredded)
- Sour cream
Instructions:
- Beat egg
- Dip chicken in egg
- Dip chicken in crumbs to coat
- Pan fry in a small amount of oil until chicken is cooked through
- Top with shredded cheese, salsa, and a dollop of sour cream.
A great meal doesn’t have to take hours to prepare. Instead, consider speeding up the cooking process by following simple guidelines and using your spare time wisely. By using the tools you probably already have in your kitchen, you can avoid the fast food drive-thru and provide yourself with a quick and healthy meal. Bon appetite.
