Last Friday night the Warriors beat San Francisco State by a score of 2-0, increasing their season record to 6-0-1.
The game remained scoreless throughout the first half until the second half outburst led by senior Apryl Whitney. Whitney’s first goal of the second half came from an Emily Relles’ corner kick which Whitney headed home in the fifty-seventh minute for the 1-0 lead.
Whitney did all the work on the second goal as she notched an unassisted goal with a blasted a shot into the upper ninety after dribbling to create the shot. These were Whitney’s first two goals of the season.
The Warriors then beat Cal State Monterey Bay on Sunday to a score of 2-1 with an overtime victory at Warrior Stadium.
Sabrina Williamson scored the game winner, her second of the season, in overtime off a pass from Karenee Demery, who scored the first goal for the Warriors.
The Warriors trailed 1-0 after Jami Murray scored in the fifty eighth minute for Cal State Monterey Bay.
Their lead didn’t last long as Karenee Demery tied the game up at 1 with a goal in the fifty ninth minute, her eighth of the season.
The men’s soccer team fell to San Francisco State last friday night being shutout 2-0 at Warrior Stadium.
Both goals were scored in the second half for the Gators, with the first coming in the fifty-sixth minute when Andrew Ogilvy scored and the second coming in the seventy fifth minute by Sam Merritt.
With the shutout the Warriors have been shutout for the third time in the last five matches.
The men’s team bounced back strong with a 3-1 victory against Cal State Monterey Bay Sunday at Warrior Stadium.
Sophomore Brady Taylor started the scoring for the Warriors in the sixth minute while junior Carlos Gavino continued the onslaught with his own goal in the twenty-third minute.
Gerardo Cazares scored the last goal of the game in the thirty-eighth minute as he drilled a shot after the ball bounced off a defender. The Warriors look to improve their record to 500 as UC San Diego and Cal Poly Pomona come to town next weekend.
