California State University, Stanislaus Psychological Counseling Services will host a sequence of workshops to discuss topics such as dealing with difficult people, increasing self-esteem and strategies to make life easier.
The Dealing with Difficult People workshop, on Nov. 5 will be hosted by Director of Psychological Counseling Services, Dr. Daniel Berkow, who will discuss strategies and techniques to deal with these relations.
Due to the many types of difficulties experienced through relations and contact with people, Berkow will use role-play and other techniques to display how each unique situation can be handled.
“We make a point to present workshops every semester as a way to reach out to the campus community, to share information and experiences that we have as counselors with students in an educational group format where there could be discussion and interaction.” Berkow said.
CSU Stanislaus counselor, Amelia Comstock-Skipp will be presenting the Increasing Self-Esteem workshop on Nov. 20 that will cover a variety of topics relating to self-image.
Amongst the topics discussed through this workshop are how self –esteem affects many areas of our life such as relationships, academics and the choices we make.
In addition Comstock will touch on how thoughts, behaviors and emotions all interact and contribute to self-esteem as well as some of the things we can do to increase self-esteem.
New Strategies to Make Life Easier. will be the final workshop held on Dec. 4 by counselor Renae Floyd.
Floyd will be presenting new and reinforcing old ideas on different ways to make life easier.
Through discussion, workshop participants will get the chance to assess themselves and learn some of the tools that can help reinforce positive feelings about oneself in order to make life a bit less stressful.
“You just never know what state of mind students can be in and these workshops can come just at the right time,” Rocio Gomez (junior, Economics) said.
“It doesn’t hurt to take advantage of the opportunities to speak to a professional counselor.”
